We have an exciting opportunity available for a House Manager to oversee two private homes on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard. 


The family have several homes around the World, therefore these are only occupied on a part-time basis.


The purpose of the role is to manage the households in their entirety including managing the staff and supervising the upkeep of the property.  Whilst the Owners are in residence, the House Manager is responsible for all stock and supply in the households, running errands, co-ordinating events and more.  This is a challenging yet very rewarding position!


The ideal candidate will have a background as a House Manager / Butler and have all-round experience in management, maintenance, driving (drivers licence is therefore essential) and some cooking. Must be a great communicator, well spoken, proactive, discreet and have great attention to detail.


The salary on offer is negotiable depending on experience and includes accommodation (a self-contained flat on site).

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Ensure everything in the properties is maintained as necessary which includes working with vendors and independent contractors for repairs and maintenance
  • Project management for any construction and renovations
  • Management of stock levels
  • Writing household manuals and setting up systems
  • Responsible for managing existing staff and overseeing recruitment of additional household staff
  • Assisting housekeepers and other team members when required
  • Developing a strong, and trusting working relationship with Principals and other staff
  • Full hands on management, care and service of the house to the highest standard.
  • To be fully aware of the daily, weekly and monthly schedules of the Principals
  • Managing the organisation of business/ private events at the house in cooperation with Principals.
  • To perform driving duties as requested
  • Occasional cooking for the Principal, when in residence


Candidates must be / have:

  • Exceptionally organised and have a keen eye for detail
  • Previous experience in Household Management
  • IT adept – rotas, spreadsheets and financial management
  • Hands on and autonomous – you must be happy to work independently
  • Confident with management of other staff and happy to work as part of a team
  • Able to prioritise your own workload and plan ahead
  • Independent, quiet, discreet and self-contained
  • Patient and yet highly motivated
  • Healthy, active and fit
  • A natural leader and happy to lead by example
  • Not above getting involved with daily tasks when required
  • Clean driving license
  • South African passport or right to work there
