Our client is looking for a committed and proactive individual to take on the role of Assistant Estate Manager, working alongside and assisting the Estate Manager of a private residential estate. The Estate has a substantial historic house along with extensive grounds, including gardens, woodlands, cottages and agricultural grazing land.


These duties will be shared with the Estate Manager:-


The day to day responsibilities of the role include: managing a staff with full-time and temporary/seasonal employees; administrative duties such as timely bill paying; record keeping; familiarity with computers and Microsoft Office; carrying out and overseeing operational, maintenance and repair of issues associated with the property; coordinating with the owner’s family and guests; organising and overseeing larger scale works; resolving unexpected matters; the security of grounds and property; dealing with tradesmen and other professionals; and many other general estate tasks as required.


The candidate must have extensive experience with the main trades. Candidates must be honest, motivated, organised, flexible, polite, have good leadership skills, and be able to multi-task when situations require.  Applicants should be self-reliant and capable of coping with emergencies as they arise, and should be prepared to manage an organic, toxin-free household.  Guidance will be available from the owners as needed.   


Ideally the candidate will have some background experience in managing a kitchen & family garden and/or pasture land and the handling of livestock, as well as general outdoor skills.  The client requires that staff adopt organic and biodynamic growing methods on their property.


Experience managing and dealing with a small staff is essential.  Suitable training and PPE will be provided for this role where necessary. The candidate will be expected to use only Approved Contractors and carry out a CDM role where required.


This role would focus on the management of the house and guests. Day to day activities for this role would include coordinating with the owner’s family and guests, housekeeping, cooking, and various other activities which could vary from week to week, all as directed by the owners.


A private cottage on estate is provided, and employees may be accompanied by their family. Must hold a current UK driving licence - there are two estate vehicles which the assistant estate manager may use for company business matters. Salary £30,000-£35,000 pa.
