Location: Requirement to visit London on a regular basis but flexible on location.

 

Working Week: It is envisaged that the role will be for 4 days a week with flexibility offered for the right candidate.

 

Reporting to the Family Office Principal

 

Job Overview:

The Private Family Office of a successful British businessman is looking for a Senior Finance Executive to join a nascent Private Office.  The role of the Financial Controller is to ensure that all accounting and financial matters of the Private Office are dealt with properly, all assets are safeguarded and under the Owner’s instruction  returns are maximized for both property and equity investments; all this with a focus on full compliance with and observance of regulatory requirements.

 

The successful candidate will be CIMA ACA or ACCA qualified and responsibilities will include Tax, VAT, Cash Flow, Risk, etc. Private client tax experience will be needed, audit experience would be beneficial together with some commercial experience.

 

The Private Office holds substantial assets in equities and property as well as significant activity and investment in a number of charities.

 

Key Duties

Holding Company

  • To ensure that all accounting and financial matters are managed proactively and dealt with promptly and appropriately.
  • To ensure that existing illiquid investments are monitored appropriately and, where required, dividends are reinvested.
  • To ensure that regular financial reporting is carried out as required and to a high standard.

 

Property Subsidiary Companies

  • To ensure that all accounting and financial matters are dealt with promptly and appropriately.
  • To ensure that rental income is maximised.
  • To ensure that regular financial reporting is carried out as required and to a high standard.

 

Taxation

  • To ensure that general tax planning is carried out for all entities.
  • To ensure that the Owner’s personal tax affairs are managed appropriately.

 

Associated charities

  • To provide financial/accounting assistance as may be required.
  • To provide ad hoc support, such as acting as internal audit.

 

Other duties and general responsibilities

  • This is a small office consisting of the role holder, one direct report plus one further role.  The individual will be responsible for providing support and feedback to these individuals to ensure the team works effectively together.
  • To oversee and monitor existing external investments.
  • Ensure that there is a Financial Process in place and that it is fit for purpose
  • Strategy development for and oversight of all financial management operations
  • Identifying and reporting on possible investment opportunities.
  • Regular reporting to the Owner on the general overall financial position of the Private Office [and associated charities.]
  • Assisting the Owner with any other private/business financial matters as required.
  • Producing clear and timely management accounts
  • Creating budgets and payment processes for a range of Assets as required.

 

Candidate Attributes:

  • CIMA ACA or ACCA qualified
  • Sage accounting experience and strong IT skills
  • Used to working autonomously without relying on other team members
  • Able to adapt to new requirements as they come up from general Tax and cash management to investment in equities, property and charitable works.
  • Ability to quickly build strong relationships with a broad network of stakeholders, including the most senior.
  • Proactive and able to anticipate problems/needs and take action to cover them
  • Ability to work as an individual contributor, take initiative and problem-solve.
  • Ability to recognise potential conflicts and acknowledge where guidance is required / necessary.
  • Ability to cope with ambiguity and prioritise confidently against conflicting demands.
  • Ideally the candidate will have had previous experience of working in a family office or previous experience advising clients on their financial matters.

 

Remuneration – TBC but will be commensurate with the seniority of the role.
